The Astronomical Society of Tasmania welcomes people who share an interest in all branches of astronomy and related sciences. Membership is open to everyone, subject to a successful application.
We encourage young adults with an interest in astronomy to join our Society and attend events. If you are under 18 years of age the Society requires that your parent (or adult guardian) completes your Membership Application Form and submits it on your behalf.
All persons under 18 years of age, including members, are required to be supervised by a parent (or adult guardian) at all times when attending Society events.
There are no qualifications to join the Society, nor is it necessary to own your own telescope.
In keeping with our aim of promoting interest in Astronomy, members are encouraged to actively participate in the Society's many and varied public outreach activities should they wish to. These activities include public observing nights, various school and community events and public education programs. Many members gain great personal satisfaction from introducing the wonders of the night sky to interested children and to the wider community.
Members who are keen to share their special interests are regular presenters at our monthly General Meetings.
Annual Membership Subscription: $40.00
Annual Membership Subscriptions are payable by the 1st April each year. Members will receive an annual renewal notice in March each year.
The cost for a new member to join the Society is $40.00
This fee provides the new member with twelve month’s membership of the Society. There are no other joining fees.
The new member will receive a credit for the un-used portion of their first twelve month’s membership when they receive their first renewal notice for the annual subscription due at 1st April.

When you have finalised your application form go to the document MENU options and select FILE. Then select SHARE >> EMAIL >> SEND AS ATTACHMENT (WORD.doc) to your email.
To lodge your application form include your name in the subject line and email to our Membership Officer at firstname.lastname@example.org
This is our preferred lodgement procedure. However, you may either print your completed form or fill out your application by hand and return to us by mail (details on the application form)
Pay your Membership Fee.
Our preferred payment option is via DIRECT CREDIT to the Society’s Bank Account. (details on the application form). Please ensure that you include the following payment reference: NEW or REJOIN followed by YOUR FULL NAME (e.g. NEW - Galileo GALILEI).
However, payments will also be accepted by cheque or money order (details on the application form).
HOW TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP OF THE SOCIETY
The Society’s Membership Year begins on the 1st April each year and ends on the 31st March the following year. Your Membership Renewal Fee due date is 1st April.
All members will receive their Annual Renewal Notice in March each year, with full instructions on how to renew their membership.
