A Beginner's

Guide to Telescopes


 

Our Beginner’s Guide to Telescopes workshop is for people considering purchasing their first telescope. This may be for themselves or for a child showing an interest in the wonders of the Tasmanian night sky.

 

The workshop places a strong emphasis on helping attendees understand the pluses and minuses of the wide range of choices available and what they will be able to see through the telescope. The workshop is hands-on with a range of beginner’s scopes available for demonstration.

 

The workshop includes a practical viewing session under the night sky following the presentation.

 

The workshop content includes:

  • How telescopes work
  • Types of telescopes, their pluses and minuses and what might be suitable for individual needs
  • Telescope mounts
  • Eyepieces and Filters
  • Practical night sky viewing session.
